I met Clara and her family last summer and I was immediately impressed at how sweet and friendly she was, even going so far as to sharing her toys with everyone around her -- even me! And I was incredibly excited when Clara's mom asked me to photograph her second birthday at the NY Kids Club. I hadn't realized that such a place existed before I showed up and imagine my surprise when I walked into the backroom and found child-sized gymnasium complete with a balance beam, horizontal bars, blow up toys and a huge trampoline!

Damian Lillard + Talib Kweli
I don't get to photograph nearly as many music shows as I'd like, so I was excited to get in front of Talib Kweli for a special event at the Harman Store last weekend. And not only was it about as small and intimate a show as you could ever ask for, but I also got to see NBA baller and rapper Damian Lillard aka Dame D.O.L.L.A. and a group of talented emcees who had participated in his #4barFriday freestyle challenge on Instagram.
Read MoreHappy 21st Birthday, Time Out New York
Birthdays tend to get quieter and duller as we get older but thank goodness Time Out New York knows how to celebrate its big day right. Hundreds gathered at Bowlmor at Chelsea Piers for arcade games, laser tag, rope courses, beer pong and, oh yeah, bowling. Took me right back to my younger days with the exception of plenty of adult beverages on hand and boozy cupcakes by Prohibition Bakery. Happy Birthday, Time Out!

I've photographed my share of speaking events, but few stand out like this Fearless Force Speaker series event that featured powerful messages from a diverse group of women.
Read MoreSunset Sail Happy Hour
The last time I was on a boat was almost 20 years ago so I was a wee bit wobbly getting on the Zephyr water taxi last month to photograph the Sunset Sail Happy Hour event by Time Out New York.
Read MoreBattle of the Burger!
The cruel irony of photographing the epic Battle of the Burger event last month for Time Out New York is that I had recently stopped eating beef.

One of the things I love about photographing events is how my job takes me to cool places all over New York, like Chef Marcus Samuelsson's restaurant Streetbird Rotisserie in Harlem.

With all due respect to The Little Mermaid's Sebastian, I think being up high can be pretty cool too, especially up on the PHD rooftop lounge during Time Out's summertime event series.

Earlier this summer I started working with Time Out New York's events team to capture some of their summertime bashes and first up was a wet and wild pool party at the McCarren Hotel.
Read MoreBirthday Fun at The Painted Cloud
I was reminded how much fun birthday parties can be when Time Out New York sent me to Brooklyn to photograph little Zoe's party at The Painted Cloud, which hosted the kind of arts-and-crafts affair that I wish I had had when I was a little guy.
Read MoreThe Star Wars Birthday You've Been Looking For
There isn't much I'd be tempted to change in my life if I could go back and do it all over, but boy would I like to give my five-year-old self a birthday party like this Star Wars extravaganza I photographed last month. The lucky birthday girl and her friends learned how to wield a lightsaber from a visiting Jedi -- just in time to help him defeat Darth Vader who just happened to walk by.

I really should be in bed right now, but screw it I just had to share these photos from tonight's Lightsaber Battle.
Read MoreFull Moon Festival
I'm not sure if I believe all the marketing for last weekend's Full Moon Festival (like how the sand sprinkled in front of the stage was imported from the South of France), but the whole space really did create a music oasis vibe out in the warehouse boonies of Brooklyn.
Read MoreWaterfight In The Park
On a hot summer day when the highs hit the mid-80s, Central Park was possibly the coolest place to be. Thousands descended upon the Great Lawn to blast and be blasted by water weapons ranging from spray bottles and garden-variety water guns, to water bazookas and car pressure washers (but no water balloons -- they weren't allowed).
Read MoreNaked And Painted For Bodypainting Day
I'm not sure what the best weather is to be painted naked in, but I didn't hear a single model complain about the heat and humidity on Saturday. It was the rest of us -- the clothed artists, photographers and hundreds of onlookers -- who were sweating and feeling uncomfortable at the Bodypainting Day.

I've shot races for the NYRR for more than five years now but only rarely do I get to sit on the back of the lead truck and take pictures of the fastest runners.
