I'm constantly reminded why I love to photograph events, and that happened last week when I showed up to take pictures at a small art show deep in Brooklyn and I had no idea what to expect. It was all very unassuming -- it was even called the "No Name Art Show" -- and some of the artists ply their trade professionally and some don't, but there were some mad skills on display. Host Julia Velasquez is a multi-threat performer and you can find the other artist Instagrams here for Chris Herrera, Kim D., Lina Rozina, Aimi Li, and Ronny A. I'm not even sure I can choose which piece I liked the most and that doesn't even include the performance artists like Coconutfam who had the crowd laughing and cheering.
There's something about supporting this kind of budding talent that feels really, really good and I was happy to see the crowd felt the same way. I know all too well that pursuing an artistic craft can be a difficult and lonely path but it's good to remember that we're not alone on that journey and our friends are there to cheer us onward.
